Hawera Water Tower April 1 2006

Hawera
Travelling south on SH3 brings you to Hawera, which in Maori means 'burnt place' - an appropriate name given it suffered devastating fires in 1884, 1888 and 1912. A water tower was built to make fire fighting easier, and it is now a heritage site. Harawera also has the biggest single-site dairy factory in the world on the outskirts of the town.
